Can God Forgive Me?
1 John 1:9
We all carry some form of guilt and regret, and we need to know with certainty that God’s forgiveness can truly lift the load of our guilt and shame. Yes, God can forgive you, In 1 John 1:9 its reads, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." If we have sinned, forgiveness is available to us at the very moment we sinned. This statement should to bring immense comfort to every child of God. The promise is, "If we confess, He will forgive." Throughout the history of the Bible God demonstrate acts of forgiveness to even the most horrible of sins: the adultery of David, the blasphemy and persecution of Paul, the evil immorality of the Corinthians. If He could forgive those, He can forgive you.
To receive true forgiveness from God there are three requirements: Recognizing the offense itself and its admission before God, making a commitment not to repeat the offense, and asking for forgiveness from God.
God and only God can forgive us for all of our sins in our lives. Not only does He want to forgive us, but He also wants to have a loving, rewarding, intimate relationship with us. He wants to be the fulfillment of all our relationships such as our Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Husband, Wife, neighbor and our best friend.
Furthermore in Hebrews 10:17 it says “And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.” Once God forgives you He purposely will not remember your sins anymore. God loves you and wants you to come to Him and lean on Him. He will never fail you, or chase you away. He will give you strength and comfort. He will heal you and He will heal your heart if you will put Him first in your life. Give it all to God and allow Him to take control. He will give you rest for your weary soul.
Jesus understands our weaknesses and our failings, because He was tempted in every way just like us, yet He did not sin. This means that He understands and even sympathizes with your failure. It does not mean it was not a sin or that you don't need to confess it and ask for forgiveness, but it means that when you do He will intercede for you with the Father. God the Father hates sin, but He loves the sinner. The price for God's forgiveness is high, but He paid the price Himself. Christ's loving act of grace, believers are eternally freed from the penalty and guilt of sin. Once we're covered by the Blood of Christ, God doesn't keep a record of our sins. Our forgiveness is total and complete. The answer is not found in our ability to forget, or in our ability to forgive ourselves, or even in our ability to feel forgiven. The answer is found in the extent to which God has gone to bear the pain and punishment of what we deserve, when Jesus died on the cross.
We must face the situation we are in. We cannot undo it. But, the Lord can get us through what must seem like very difficult times. We need to seek the counsel of the Holy Spirit through prayer which will us help us move on. God has a plan for us, even in the midst of these circumstances. We must be prepared to follow His will for our lives, as difficult as it may be.
We should begin a daily walk with the Lord, which includes Bible study and prayer. He wants to teach us about himself and guide you into all truth. In His Word, we will learn about God's character and principles for living a Christian life. The promise is, "If we confess, He will forgive." Let’s take God at His word.
