We need to look head-on into race and Christianity.
The church should not go around saying that we should all be colorblind.
If God were colorblind, we would all be the same race. And wouldn’t that be boring!
We should learn how to value one another.
Just because a person is black/white/Hispanic/Asian, doesn’t mean that they are some sort of lower class Christian. We all have something to offer. We all have an important part to play in God’s orchestra. How dare we have the audacity to believe that the color of someone’s skin determines their worth.
Inside the church walls we still have camps of segregation.
We have to throw out the old mindsets and refuse to be bound by old stereotypes. Lots of things that were taught by previous generations (of all colors), were flat out wrong. These teachings were sometimes built upon by prejudice, anger, and sometimes, pure hatred. It’s funny how, when you push aside all the misinformation about different race, you can see how we are all much more similar than different. The main problem is that we just don’t know it. We have to make more strides in understanding each other and learning how to effectively communicate.
Too many walls have been built in the name of the Lord that Christians of different colors and nationalities away from each other. Fear and mistrust must be replaced with love and compassion. There should be no reason to not truly be brothers and sisters in Christ. To help someone in need or be able to share a smile should be a way of life for all of us. After all, it’s a heart thing not a skin thing.
The world around us is changing. It is becoming more and more diverse everyday. There are nationalities and races of people who are growing in number in our country and the world. There are more neighborhoods in the U.S. that are becoming what a true melting pot looks like. There are cities where you find 5 or 6 languages being spoken on the same block.
We must take the LEAD in building stronger communities.
We have to build relationships outside our zones of influence.
Styles may be different, but your substance is forever.
