Frontiers was born just under 25 years ago, at a time when most American followers of Jesus knew relatively little about Islam. It was born not in response to the threat of Islam, or in response to disasters in the Muslim world, but out of conviction that God had not forgotten 20% of the world’s population.

Specifically, Frontiers was the result of three questions which troubled Greg Livingstone:

Why are Muslims the exception to the growth of the church worldwide?
What is the God of the Bible going to do about it?
How can the first fellowships of Muslim-born believers in Christ be established where today there are none?
Frontiers, it can be said, was the fruit of Greg’s understanding of God’s answer.

Since 1982, Frontiers has remained focused on the ultimate objective of sharing the Lord Jesus Christ with Muslims. In keeping with the growing awareness of the importance of spontaneous Jesus movements, Frontiers passion is to glorify God by establishing communities of those who follow Jesus Christ that lead to movements among all Muslim peoples, through apostolic teams, in partnership with others who share this vision.

By the Lord’s grace, this single-minded “passion statement continues to guide the Frontiers movement, now representing 819 workers on 146 teams, reaching 86 Muslim people groups in 54 countries worldwide. Together with sending base staff in the United States and 12 other countries, and International Office staff in the United Kingdom, the Frontiers family now numbers more than 1000 members.

Through the witness of this combined team, committed national believers, and partners in giving and prayer, God has been pleased to raise up nearly 170 fellowships and organizations of Muslim-born believers.
