According to Webster’s New World Dictionary the word “struggle is defined as, “to fight violently with an opponent; conflict; or strife. We as followers of Jesus Christ will have struggles. Some of you may ask why, because our flesh (carnal and sinful part of us) will war/or be hostile against the spirit (God given part of us). We also war against rulers of darkness according to Ephesians 6:12. Through prayer, studying, and scripture I’m going to give you four points to assist you in overcoming your struggles and build a closer walk with our Lord Jesus Christ.
1.We must have a respect for the enemy (Knowing Jesus is greater)We’re in spiritual warfare (Romans 8:7; Ephesians 6:12). If we wake up every morning with the mentality that this is something other than “war we will let our guard down. It’s like boxing, when you step into the ring you respect your opponent enough to train properly so when you get in the ring you won’t get knocked out. The same goes spiritually, respect the enemy enough to know that if you don’t build your relationship with God and adopt the characteristics of God the enemy can cause you to go fall.
2.Evaluate yourself & don’t set yourself up for failure
Self-Examination is required daily. While you’re evaluating yourself (be honest with yourself). Confess your weaknesses to God (Leviticus 26:40-42) and ask for wisdom (James 1:5) and instruction so you’ll be able to stand longer and stronger on the Word of God.
3.We must resist the devil by submitting to God
We’re not suppose to fear Satan (2nd Timothy 1:7), but know that God’s spirit that dwells within us is greater then all (1st John 4:4). The best known way of submitting is by obeying. 1st Samuel 15:22 says, “…to obey is better then sacrifice… We sacrifice so much when we’re disobedient. We sacrifice time, feelings, health, ourselves, our relationship with others and God. If we obey we won’t sacrifice our relationship with our Heavenly Father. Sin is the thing that separates us from God; don’t allow that to keep you from God.
4.We should always have on the armor of God (Ephesians 6:13-17)
In life we’re taught to dress according to the situation. When we go swimming we wear bathing suits; clothing that was made to handle water. Spiritually we should do the same. We’re in a spiritual war, so our apparel should be designed for war. The armor of God according to Ephesians 6:13-17 is what we need. From helmet to shoes; from shield of faith to the sword which is the Word of God.
Closing Remarks:
In order to see the truth about Christ and to identify with the areas we struggle with in life we must be sober (1st Peter 5:8-10). We must be honest with ourselves and say, “Lord these are the areas I’m weak in…, Lord, please forgive me for my sins. Forgive me for my ignorance and give me the wisdom to stand in your Name.
