So you ask about our jesus factory. Did you notice that in the factory jesus was never capitalized? Why? Because at the jesus factory it’s a jesus of our own making. Not a jesus that is offensive. A jesus that is comfortable for your stay in this world, a jesus that was designed for you and by you, and put together at our factory

Since I’ve been pastoring our church phone rings everyday. “Try our new children’s ministry program, it will revolutionize your church� “Have you heard about our six week study on revelation? We know the answer to the mark of the beast�. Who would have ever guessed there were jesus telemarketers?

Some might say, Dang Ken, aren’t you being a little harsh. I mean these are Christian resources that the church can really pull from, some great material. Why are you knocking it?!

My agenda in writing this is not to knock the Christian resources that we have. Actually in my house you will find many items that could be labeled as “jesus junk� so it’s not a personal vendetta. Actually its something that God kind of spoke to me about.

How guilty am I of trying to put Jesus into a box of my own making. Sometimes I’m guilty of thinking. This plan will help our church, or this program will do the trick. What if we did this? What if we did that? My walk will grow incredibly if I bought that book. And in all reality, I’m in the process of making Jesus into my own creation.
Isn’t it easy? I mean it all begins when we slip away from the word. A biblical Jesus. The Jesus that the bible teaches us about. It’s when we take our eyes off of Christ and we begin to craft Jesus into our making.
An escape of a biblical Jesus is very dangerous. But also not communicating with The Lord is dangerous. I know that in my life, many times I’ve had to preach or go on a trip and do the “jesus� thing, when I haven’t spent anytime with Him at all. Without communicating to Jesus Himself, we forget what His voice sounds like. What He wants of us. Daily we must be in the Word and Daily we must be in Prayer.

We are always so tempted to craft our Lord into something that we want. If we would only heed his words,. When will we learn, when will I learn, that we must submit to Jesus. Not make Jesus submit to us. He poured his life out on the cross for us.

I want to be a disciple of Jesus. I mean a real disciple. One that listens to his teacher and does what He says. One that has embarked on the journey that He has called me on. One who I admire and worship, not one that I created, and not one that answers to me. He saved me by His grace, and by His grace I will always honor Him.
So the next time the jesus factory comes rolling into town, be that in the form on the latest trend, the newest jesus slogan, toy, video, book, whatever or maybe editing what Christ said (picking and choosing what you like). Just don’t pick a jesus that is trendy or comfortable, listen to the words of The REAL JESUS in Matthew 16:24

“And when he had called the people [unto him] with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.�
