Organization :: New York City Relief

Life is an adventure. Sometimes God brings us opportunities that are unexplainable.

One adventure I just recently had was with New York City Relief (NYCR). New York City Relief (NYCR) connects people in need with programs offering life-changing services such as drug rehabilitation, shelter, transitional housing, and job training. The New York City Relief staff meets the homeless, the prostitute, the alcoholic, the unemployed, and the substance abuser individually with a message of hope and encouragement to empower them to get a new start. They exist to connect people in need with resources that offer hope such as shelter, job training, and faith-based drug rehabilitation programs. The Hope Center in Elizabeth, NJ is the home and launching point for our compassionate outreach, including: The Relief Bus of NYC, Matthews House (an emergency food pantry), crisis and pastoral counseling, Overcomers Outreach (a 12-step substance abuse support group), and City Tribe, a vibrant and unique urban church based at The Hope Center.
When people are struggling and hurting, hope can move mountains.

The faces I saw while I was there reminded me of how much Jesus cares for human life. I saw his eyes in the people I met, one person comes to mind. Ajack was his name; he used to be a New York Police officer. After the tragedy on 9/11, he turned to drugs to cover the pain. He has been on the streets ever since. His health is failing, he told me. We prayed together and God touched him. I saw it in his eyes, he wants more but he is caught in the traps of life. As Christians we are called to minister to the poor and needy. The Bible offers this glimpse of what we can do as Jesus followers.. I'll tell you what it means to worship the Lord. Remove the chains of the prisoners who are chained unjustly. Free those who are abused! Share your food with everyone who is hungry; share your home with the poor and homeless. Give clothes to those in need; don't turn away your relatives. -- Excerpt from Isaiah 58:6-12.
