The RocketAhhh life, isn't it interesting?
I think so. In fact I know so, It's a real journey for sure. And that journey usually ends up being very unpredictable.
Well one thing about the journey is, there's always a crazy pit stop or bump in the road. You know what I mean? Me and two of my best friends from college recently made the drive from Kentucky to Florida. Frank, another college buddy got married down there, so it was time for a road trip. What would a road trip be without some cool and corky pit stops along the way. Let me tell you about one of these amazing roadway attractions. As soon as you cross over the Alabama state line you are welcomed by an incredible ROCKET on I-65 South. Apparently a long time ago this rocket, known as the Saturn 1B was shot into space, and all that jazz.....and some how it ended up at the Alabama state border…Don’t ask why.

We cruise into Alabama sometimes on our journey to Florida, and we stop to see the rocket. I remember as a kid, me and my dad would stop here and play around, so why not stop with the boys.
Ahh yes, memories were made. We took pictures, lounged around, watched the old people and I"m pretty sure we saw a crack head there doing jumping jacks in the parking lot. The time at the rocket served in nothing but slowing us down for our destination. But was the rocket a waste? Of course not. If it wasn't for the rocket I wouldn't have been able to take Shea's picture next to the sign, used the bathroom, or check the road map. I would have missed out on this beautiful pit stop on the journey. Hold on now, there is a point involved in all of this.

The Lesson

After college I moved to Louisville. I continued on with my traveling, preaching and helping out in churches, while trying to figure out seminary. But everything seems temporary. EVERYTHING. My school, my apartment, sometimes even my church that I’m helping out (though I plan on being there for a while, but I know God will further guide me).
Sometimes in this period of waiting I get real frustrated. I really do. I just want God to give me everything I need right now.

I think about Old Moses. Old boy spent the majority of his life working with a people getting ready to take them into the promised land. Out of the temporal and into the stability. But he died in the temporal. What if I die in the temporal? Does that mean that God's plan wasn't fulfilled for me? What if while in the great big theological cosmological Rocket Rest Stop that I'm in, God takes me out? Did I make it to the destination? Was my life and purpose not completed?

Well....Moses never made it. He died in temporal, but yet at the same time, God's will was fulfilled for his life. He led these people in the desert, got to hang out with God, and deliver the Law.
Why am I writing this? Because the temporal frustrates me. Should it? Probably not. Because the temporal is where God wants me at right now. That’s his plan. His plan is for me to be in the temporal, so I better just accept it. And the joy is we can enjoy where God has us for the time being. I know things will change and I press on towards the goal but I can’t change the circumstances I’m in for right now. So I serve Jesus, right where he’s put me.

So here I am God. I'm on my way to Florida, but hanging out at this big rocket in Alabama. What if I don't make it to Florida? It's alright, because I know you're here with me. I know you're hand is guiding me. And right now you want me at the rocket. Lord thank you for letting me stop here. It's fun. It's exciting. How about that guy doing jumping jacks over there. Wow that’s awesome God. Thanks Lord for being a God that lets me worship and serve you right here, right now. Right where I'm at. Thanks God for using me and holding me together. You're my friend. And as I told my Sunday school class today. You're my stability.

Amen
