If you are like me, the fall and winter are basically hibernation months for you. I spend more time eating and less time exercising or doing any kind of activities to burn off the calories that I am adding with my increased appetite. The cold weather drives me inside where I sit in front of the television for endless hours of football, all the while enjoying fattening snacks like pizza, chips, doughnuts, and cookies.
This year, I have decided to try and keep those pounds away, thus making life easier in the Spring of next year. Instead of working twice as hard to lose what I’ve gained, I am attempting to lose it before I gain it. Autumn offers cooler temperatures than the summer, which means that certain activities can be done for a longer period of time in the fall season. Here are five ideas for outdoor fall workouts that will help you to work off those calories and burn that fat before it turns into a spare tire that won’t fit into your clothes.
1 â€" Touch Football League â€" It doesn’t have to be a league, just find a group of guys who will meet each week to play. We love to watch football in the fall, and playing it is even better. Play each Saturday morning or Saturday afternoon, or even get a group of guys from church who will play on Sunday afternoons. Just get together for a couple of hours and play some football and you will burn many of the calories that you are adding at your Monday Night Football parties. If you have kids, take them out in the yard and throw some with them too…it will leave a lasting memory in their minds.
2 â€" Tennis â€" Another good idea for the fall is to play tennis. With the heat of the summer gone, you will be able to play longer and the colder weather makes the ball heavier, which also produces a greater workout. One of the great things about tennis is that, even if it is cold, you have to do so much running that you will get warmed up quickly. Find someone who will play tennis with you at least one night a week. In just a couple of hours, you will be amazed at the complete workout that you will get.
3 â€" Disc Golf â€" Spend time outdoors in the cool air of the fall and play a round or two of disc golf. If you’ve never played, the fall is a great time to learn, since the temperature is not unbearable like it is during the summer months. You can practice by yourself, which makes this a great option if everyone else you know is busy. Still fairly a new sport, this is something that will not cost you very much and is something you can get your friends involved in.
4 â€" Rollerblading â€" Another activity that will burn a lot of calories and you can do for an extended period of time is rollerblading. Find a place and pop on some blades. This is another activity that you can do that doesn’t require anyone else to be there with you. Also, you can do this during the week on your lunch break, which means that it doesn’t take away time from your family or other commitments you might have.
5 â€" Roller Hockey â€" This one requires having a few people to join you, but is an awesome way to get a great workout. Roller Hockey is a great team sport that gives you a full body workout. In some areas, there are roller hockey leagues, but even if there is not one in your area, you can get the guys together and play in a church parking lot or at the park. Playing roller hockey will also get you into the mood for the NHL, which has just gotten its’ season underway.
These are just a few ideas for the fall for you to try out. For the most part, each one is inexpensive and some can even be done without needing other people to join in. Each one of these outdoor activities can be performed for a longer period of time in the autumn since the sun is not draining all of our energy when we exercise. Each one will help you to burn those calories that tend to add up after the summer has ended and the cooler weather has set in.
