What it is::
Their mission is pretty simple :: OLPC (ONE LAPTOP PER CHILD) The OLPC OX is designed to be the one computer that can really cover the world. A $100 laptop that has been the brainchild of numerous programmers, computer developers and open-source networks. Their goal is to give opportunity through technology to young generations of 3rd world countries.

Most of the nearly twoâ€"billion children in the developing world are inadequately educated, or receive no education at all. One in three does not complete the fifth grade.
The individual and societal consequences of this chronic global crisis are profound. Children are consigned to poverty and isolationâ€"just like their parentsâ€"never knowing what the light of learning could mean in their lives. At the same time, their governments struggle to compete in a rapidly evolving, global information economy, hobbled by a vast and increasingly urban underclass that cannot support itself, much less contribute to the commonweal, because it lacks the tools to do so.
OLPC is not, at heart, a technology program, nor is the XO a product in any conventional sense of the word. OLPC is a non-profit organization providing a means to an endâ€"an end that sees children in even the most remote regions of the globe being given the opportunity to tap into their own potential, to be exposed to a whole world of ideas, and to contribute to a more productive and saner world community.
Best Feature ::
Where power is not availableâ€"the XO can be hand powered. It will come with at least two of three options: a crank, a pedal, or a pull-cord. Other features are very innovative such as the networking feature. XO creates its own mesh network out of the box. Each machine is a full-time wireless router. It is also very durable as it doesn't even use a hard drive, which is the most common component to fail in a laptop, which gives it a 5 year life-cycle.
Price :: They are trying to get it down to $100...but currently it is at about $177.
Rating :: 10/10
