“I lay down my life, willingly, that I might take it up again.
John 10:17
In a new, short volume titled simply, The Words (Credo House Publishers, 2007) you will find the teachings of Jesus Christ, presented in a fascinating and deeply insightful way.
Author/photographer/film director, Lee Cantelon, began writing The Words in the 1980’s because he saw a need for a fresh approach to the teachings of Jesus Christ. An approach that was geared to the needs of people who were fed-up with organized religion, and who were not necessarily believers, but who were deeply interested in learning about what Christ truly taught.
Working with numerous bible scholars from varied denominations, Cantelon produced a unique topical organization of Christ’s words recorded in the New Testament’s four gospels. Translating the original Greek/Aramaic texts to contemporary English, Words is readily available to readers of any level and uniquely communicates the depth of passion in Christ’s teaching where other translations sometimes leave you wanting.
Words has also been translated into 29 other languages beyond English, and is available for free in various formats, including Mp3 at www.thewords.com
For the artistic layout of Words, designer Mark Arnold was enlisted to “evoke the counterculture power of Jesus’ message. Combining stark color contrast and gritty typeface Christ’s teachings are visually powerful and create a mood of both mystery and truth while reading the text. (See www.andarnold.com for more of Mark’s excellent work.)
I recommend this book as a devotional paraphrase for Christ-followers at any point in their spiritual journey, and it would be a great book to show to an unbeliever seeking Jesus.
